Hi! I am so glad you are joining me. Although our Seesaw technology platform isn't currently active for your art class, you can still be working on the project I have planned. Please view the video below and create a portfolio where you can store your art projects.
If you don't have large paper at home, you may use a folder or staple two sheets of paper together at the sides and bottom. This is AO: Q1 W2 assignment for Art. https://youtu.be/KyT8ctdUXFw

Hello! I haven't posted to this blog/website in quite some time. I am going to try to be more diligent in posting here regularly, especially with art project opportunities!
We are currently out of our normal school setting due to the COVID-19 virus, and Mrs. Ray and I have worked on bringing some resources and ideas so that you may be bale to create some art at home. I am working on bringing some guided Spring art lessons to you via video instruction and hope to see some responses from you if you are able to make these projects. If you are able, please respond below with a comment or a picture of your artwork. This is one of my favorite times of our year in Art class as the students are very interested in making seasonal art to share, and we have more project ideas than time! As we are getting prepared for some of our winter projects, we always try to participate in the statewide Fire Safety Poster contest. Students have the chance to submit fire safety posters to the school, teachers select some of those posters to send to the Fire Chief in Arlington, and the Fire Chief selects a few of the best projects to submit to the state contest.
I appreciate all of the students who worked on this project so diligently and want to share some of their hard work with you! Unfortunately, not everyone's work can be sent to the state level but we are so proud of the hard work of our DES Art students. We have had a terrific 2 weeks in art class. Second graders studied a monument in Utah, "Newspaper Rock." That mountain has some prehistoric art images which have been preserved on its wall. We learned about life in prehistoric times, and created small clay sculptures with prehistoric symbol carving in air-dry clay. The students enjoyed working with clay and getting messy last week. After the clay had time to dry, we came back and finished them off with a coat of paint. I would say the project was a success!
We are having a terrific time being back in the art classroom. This week we are working on some paper sculptures which has been an awesome exercise in creativity and 3D art!
Below are a few pictures from our projects. Our students have had a terrific month filled with winter art projects!
Pre-k and kindergarteners painted snowy scenes. Kindergarteners and first graders created winter self portraits. second and third graders created winter birch trees with watercolors. fourth and fifth graders created Elvis pictures and practiced facial features with Dr. Martin Luther king, JR. portraits. Various classes have also had the opportunity to learn about Leonardo davinci and practice drawing the Mona Lisa, and fifth graders have enjoyed brining their iPads to art class so that we could play Kahoot! about the biography of Edvard Munch that they read in their scholastic art magazines. Students are currently working on winter cardinal art (Pre-school), Romero Britto-style "hearts" art, and sun and moon warm/cool color palettes. We are about to begin two new art assignments for local and international contests. k-5 students will be working on a "Doodle for google" that we will enter into google's international search for artwork to feature on the homepage. We will also be entering contests for "ag day's Farm of the future" which is a local competition and I am hoping to see some excellent entries! we will send all of these contest entries in during the first week of march. your student is welcome to work on their entries at school and/or at home. Thanks for keeping up with our art class! Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Morgan were thrilled to send some of our Donelson artwork from 4th and 5th grades to display at local businesses in Arlington! .We had several excellent pieces of artwork to choose from. Be on the lookout for our school's artwork when you are out this month.
Last month, students also learned how to draw the mayflower and a whimsical turkey. Some students chose to create holiday cards to cheer up residents and patients in some of our local assisted living homes and hospitals. I was very impressed by their creative work and the students' thoughtfulness. this month, we are working on seasonal artwork and I have been so proud of their creative reindeer and trees, grid art, and ornaments. Next week, we will have a visitor in our art classes from the Dixon art gallery. I can't wait to see what activities our Local artist will bring for us! We have had some great projects with successful results in art classes In October and November. Students have completed a variety of projects showcasing the changing colors of the leaves. We have used crayon (wax) resist watercolors. The kids have enjoyed seeing how their crayon creations are transformed by a simple layer of watercolor.
students in 2nd grade studied and interpreted reflections on how fall trees would look when reflected beside a body of water. students in 4th and 5th grades worked on creating unique leaves with crayon fill designs and then adding watercolor for a whole new feel. Students in 1st grade created a scene with a fall tree with falling leaves and learned about foreground, middle ground, and background. Kindergarten and pre-school students have enjoyed learning more about how to draw certain animals, such as cats, foxes, and owls. we are busy working on a fire safety poster with the theme: "Every second counts; Know 2 ways out." 4th and 5th graders are also working on "art around Arlington"- illustrating a variety of Arlington landmarks. Come back soon to see what we will do next! |
